MINI-GENERATOR With Light Switch For Motorized Bicycles

This is a Mini-Generator made to provide electricty for 6 volt lighting of about 3 to 5 watts. This item includes a SPDT Light Switch and is easily installed. Instructions for installation are included.
The second and third photos below illustrate the Mini-Gen installed into the engine's magneto housing. This "Mini-Gen" is a mini generator and will produce reliable electricity for all common 6v 3w headlight systems.
This generator will run lights of higher wattage, but for best all around performance, a 3 to 5 watt lighting system is recommended. Just install into magneto case using the 2 rear magneto screws, then route red (output) wire through wire harness. The red wire from the MINI GENERATOR will send electricity to your lights through a light switch or connected directly for continuous light.

  • The SPDT switch includes an optional ground wire for neutralizing theMini-Gen when lights are off; resulting in smoother transaction.
  • Mount the switch on upper frame rail, handle bar or where ever you wish.
    Note:
    Mini-Gen wire is approx. 12" long and switch wires are approx. 6" long.



  • Just remove the engine magneto cover, then use the 2 rear screws to attach Mini-Generator inside engine magneto case.
  • Remove wire grommet at the front (white plastic or black rubber) then insert Mini-Gen wire into grommet. 
  • Use a pick or small screwdriver or nail to push into the area where wire will fit, then insert wire.



     
  • After the Mini-Generator is installed, the power wire should be routed toward bicycle seat post for Mini-Charger connection, unless it's being used for other purpose.
  • Position wire inside case away from moving parts and also make sure it will not be pinched under the cover.
  • Use duct tape (any color) or cable ties to secure wire onto bike's bottom bracket and seat post.
  • The Mini-Gen in this photo is connected to the red wire coming from the Mini-Charger. Your results will look far better than this one.




    
  • Here is the Mini-Gen's voltage being measured.
  • The Mini Gen here is producing a little over 6 volts for all 6 volt lighting systems and accessories.
  • This is called a generator (which technically produces dc voltage), but this produces AC voltage.
  • The engine speed here is around 900 to 1000 RPM which is just a little above idle speed.
  • Most riders will produce this voltage at a slow speed of around 12 to 15 MPH.
  • Higher voltages of around 12 or more is obtainable at much higher engine speeds, but 6 volts is recommended for all around best performance.



  

  • The Mini-Gen is seen here hooked up to a common 6 volt / 3 watt bicycle headlight and tail light .
  • This type of lighting is rated at around 500 milliamps (1/2 AMP), but it was tested on a fully charged 6 volt battery and used about 0.435 amps (or 435 milliamps).
  • Here in the photo you see the light using 424 milliamps at just a little over idle speed.
  • Unlike most LED lights, regular light bulbs will run off both AC and DC voltage with no problem.
  • Caution:- If running lights directly from Mini-Gen, avoid revving up the engine with lights on because high revs for more than 5 seconds can immediately blow the bulbs.
  • High speeds while driving is perfectly o.k.
